  • The Applications tab presents all applications for which data was detected on front-end tiers. By default, the report shows data for the current day with a one-hour resolution. The Applications (High Resolution) report shows this data with finer granularity (a resolution of one period).
  • The Tiers tab presents a technologically oriented view of your monitored environment: the division of layers for a typical business application. By default, the report shows data for the current day with a one-hour resolution. The Tiers (High Resolution) report shows this data with finer granularity (a resolution of one period). The high-resolution version of the report is accessed from the Real-User Performance Overview chart after you click a selected point on the chart.
  • The Sites tab lists all client sites in which data was detected during the selected period of time. Use it to analyze performance problems starting from the client side.  By default, the report shows data for the current day with a one-hour resolution.

Use the Views links on the Sites tab to switch between Regions, Areas, and Sites as needed.

Applications tab

Note:

If the CAS is configured to receive data from Enterprise Synthetic Agent Manager, the Applications report will automatically show the applications originating from Enterprise Synthetic.

The high-resolution version of the report is accessed from the Application Performance Overview chart when you click a selected point on the chart. This report shows the same metrics as the Applications report, but presented values reflect measurements for the selected time range with a resolution of one period.

The Applications tab helps you identify applications with performance or availability problems. Data is presented both on a chart and in a table.

You should start analyzing data by looking at the Application Performance Overview chart, which shows the performance of the top five applications (according to the number of unique users) over the selected period. If you notice a significant drop in application performance at a particular hour, click that point on the chart to see more details.

The Application Performance Overview chart

The tabular report lists the defined applications. Each row represents one application and shows metric values corresponding to the front-end tier for the application. You can see that tier name in the Tier column. The most important statistics include Performance, Unique and affected users (performance), and Errors that occurred over the analyzed period of time.

In addition to numeric data, the tabular report includes status icons to indicate different levels of problem severity. If there were performance or availability problems with any of the listed applications, you will see a yellow, orange, or red status icon in the Performance, Unique and affected users, or Availability column. In this case, click the application name to display a layered view of the application and see whether the problem is the network or the data center. For more information, see Network performance calculations.

The report has additional Tiers and Sites perspective tabs that enable fast switching to other global views of your monitored environment.

Drilldown reports

Use drilldown links in the Application, Unique and affected users (performance), and Failures (total) columns to see detailed information in the context of the selected application.

See the Related Pages list to read more about the available drilldown reports.

Tiers tab

Report contents and usage

Use the Tiers report if you have no applications defined.

You should start analyzing data by looking at the Real user performance overview chart, which shows changes in the operation time for data center tiers regarded as front-end over the selected period. If you notice a significant rise in the operation time at a particular hour, click that point on the chart to see details.

The Client tiers, Network tiers, and Data center tiers tables show a logical division of tiers together with detailed statistics. If there were performance or availability problems with any of the listed tiers, you will see a yellow, orange, or red status icon in the Performance, Unique and affected users, or Availability column. For more information, see Network performance calculations.

Drilldowns

From Tiers, the following reports can be opened by clicking links in the report tables:

Client tiers table

  • Tier column
    • Enterprise Synthetic - Applications report. For the Synthetic tier.

If the traffic is monitored by both Enterprise Synthetic Agents and Dynatrace Application Monitoring, you can also drill down to the Dynatrace Application Monitoring client.

    • Sequence transactions log reportFor the RUM sequence transactions tier.

    • Metric Charts for Client Tiers report.

  • Unique and affected users (performance) column

    • All Users for Client Tiers

    • Application Performance Affected Users

    • Availability Affected Users

  • Failures (total) column
    • Errors for Client Tiers

    • Synthetic - Unavailable Transaction Summary
      (for synthetic tiers)

Network tiers table

  • Tier column
    • Sites for tier – For the Client network and Network tiers.

    • Metric charts – For the Client network, Citrix/WTS (presentation), and Network tiers.

    • Optimized WAN Environment Performance Overview - Sites – For the Client optimized network tier.

    • Metric Charts for Client Optimized Network Tier – For the Client optimized network tier.

    • Citrix landing page – For the Citrix/WTS (presentation) tier.

Data center tiers table

  • Tier column
    • Servers for tier
    • Operations for tier
    • Metric charts
    • Application responses

If HTTP traffic is monitored both DC RUM and Dynatrace Application Monitoring, you can drill down to the Dynatrace Application Monitoring client from the Tier and Failures (total) columns.

Note that Dynatrace Application Monitoring can show data for one system profile only. If a tier definition is based on software services that come from different Dynatrace Application Monitoring servers or belong to different system profiles on the same Dynatrace Application Monitoring server, Dynatrace Application Monitoring will show data for an arbitrarily chosen system profile.

  • Unique and affected users (performance) column
    • All users

    • Application performance affected users

    • Network performance affected users

    • Availability affected users

  • Failures (total) column
    • Application responses.

Sites tab

The Sites tab helps you identify sites in which performance problems occur and analyze how the problems affect users. Depending on how you access this report, you will see either all client sites or only the sites that belong to a given area or tier. Data is presented both on a chart and in a table.

The Usage over time chart shows the number of all transmitted bytes for defined sites over the selected period of time. By default, the resolution is set to one hour. The tabular report shows detailed statistics for each site in which traffic was detected.

You should start analyzing data by looking at the following columns.

  • Unique and affected users (performance)
Shows a breakdown of unique users by whether they were affected or not affected in terms of performance.
Click in any row in this column to display the numerical values for this breakdown (number and percent affected or not affected).
  • Affected users (network)
Shows the number of affected users (in terms of the network). You can drill down for a detailed report.

If you see any users affected by performance problems in a specific site, click its name to view the list of applications.

In addition to providing numeric data, the tabular report uses status icons to indicate different levels of problem severity. If there were application or network performance problems in any of the listed sites, you will see a yellow, orange, or red status icon in the Application performance or Network performance column. For more information, see Network performance calculations.
